This article is about the Legend of Zelda character Link. For information on the ZScript object Link, see Link (ZScript).

Link is the main character in the Legend of Zelda series whom the player controls to explore the world, solve puzzles, use items, and defeat enemies, ultimately to rescue Princess Zelda. In ZQuest, the ability to edit sprites makes it possible to have a controllable hero other than Link, and therefore a nontraditional storyline. As of 2.5, there is a Link Sprite dialog box, which allows the user to define Link's tiles and animation.

Sprite Tiles

These are separated into two different categories; Land and Water.

Land

Walk- Used for Link's walking animation; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Slash- Used for when Link slashes with any weapon that is able to slash; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Stab- Used for when Link attacks; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Pound- Used for when Link uses the hammer or Farore's Wind; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Jump- Used for Link's jumping animation; includes up, down, left, and right tiles. Note that these always use 3 animation frames regardless of what animation style is used.
Charge- Used for when Link is charging his sword; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Hold- Used for when Link holds up an item while on land; includes one hand and two hand sprites.
Cast- Used for when Link casts Din's Fire or Nayru's Love. Note that the on-land two hand holding sprite is also used for this animation.

Water

Float- Used for when Link floats in one place while in water; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Swim- Used for when Link moves around while in water; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Dive- Used for when Link dives underwater; includes up, down, left, and right tiles.
Hold- Used for when Link holds up an item while in water; includes one hand and two hand sprites.

Other Notes When selecting Link's tiles, one can use the x key to change Link's size. There are three different sizes: 16x16 (normal), 32x16 (tall), and 32x32 (large).

Drop-down Boxes

Swim Speed

This drop-down menu allows one to choose between slow or fast swim speed.

Animation Styles

There are four different animation styles.
Zelda 1- 2-frame; flip animation for up facing tiles
BS Zelda- 3-frame
Zelda 3- 9-frame, including a standing tile
Zelda 3 (Slow Walk)- Same as above, but with slower animation.

Check Boxes

These affects Link's walking behavior.

Diagonal Movement

Allows Link to walk diagonally instead of only being able to move in the 4 cardinal directions.

Large Link Hit Box

Prevents Link from being able to walk onto a solid combo from the south.
NOTES:
If the top half of a combo is solid while the bottom half is walkable and the top half of the combo below is solid, Link will not be able to step onto the bottom half of this combo.
If the top half of a combo is walkable while the bottom half is solid and the bottom half of the combo above is solid, Link will not be able to step onto the top half of this combo.
