Patras are both specific enemies included by default, and an enemy type selectable in the Enemy Editor.

The Enemy

A one-eyed bug that has a ring of smaller one-eyed bugs surrounding it. The L2 and L3 varieties, however, have two rings of smaller bugs surrounding them, and shoot fireballs that cannot be blocked.

Spawn Flags:
One-eyed bug-like creature found only in level 9 in The Legend of Zelda. They have 8 eyes surrounding them and cannot be harmed until all 8 eyes are destroyed. The eyes of the Big Circle variety spread out far to attack Link, while the eyes of the Oval variety make an obvious oval rotation pattern. Additionally, the ring of the Oval variety is wider than that of the Big Circle variety.

Spawn Flags:
A new enemy in Zelda Classic. It uses the Big Circle pattern, but is much stronger than the L1 Big Circle Patra and has two rings of 8 eyes instead of 1. The Outer Ring rotates counterclockwise while the inner ring rotates clockwise and cannot be harmed until the entire outer ring is destroyed. The enemy itself shoots fireballs at Link and cannot be harmed until both the outer ring and the inner ring have been destroyed.

Another new enemy in Zelda Classic. As with the L2 Patra, this Patra uses the Big Circle pattern and has two rings of 8 eyes instead of 1. This Patra is far worse than the L2 variety, because as while the center eye does not shoot fireballs, the inner eyes do.

Despite its big size, this Patra is merely a weaker version of the Oval Patra due to the fact that it only has six eyes instead of eight. It originates from BS Zelda.

Enemy Properties

  • Type: The overall behavior of the enemy
1x1 Patra: Normal Patra
2x2 Patra: Patra BS
  • Outer Eyes: The number of eyes in the enemy's outer ring
  • Inner Eyes (1x1 only): The number of eyes in the enemy's inner ring
  • Eye's HP: The HP of each of the eyes
  • Eye Movement: The movement pattern of the eyes

Center Eye: The enemy fires a weapon. If the "Use New Enemy Tiles" Quest Rule is set, then the inner eyes' starting tile is equal to the enemy's tile plus 120.
Inner Eyes: Each inner eye fires a weapon. If the "Use New Enemy Tiles" Quest Rule is set, then the inner eyes' starting tile is equal to the enemy's tile plus 40.
  • Pattern Odds: The inverse probability that the eyes will begin a special movement pattern on a certain frame. That is, if Pattern Odds is 2, there is a 1/2 probability that a special pattern will begin
  • Pattern Cycles: The duration, in frames, of special movement patterns
  • Eye Offset: The tile used for the outer eyes. This values is treated as an offset and added to the enemy's tile to determine the eye tile.
  • Eye CSet: The CSet used by the enemy's eyes.

Other Notes

  • Although step speed now applies to this enemy class, it still does not apply to 2x2 Patras, which have a hard-coded speed of 25.
  • Only 1x1 Patras can use the Big Circle Pattern. 2x2 Patras can only use the Oval Pattern.
  • Only 1x1 Patras can have shooters. This attribute does not apply to 2x2 Patras.
