Wallet are items which can allow a specified number of rupees to be held at one time. Note that setting the maximum number or rupees Link can carry to begin with in the initialization data eliminates the purpose of the wallets with the exception of the L3 wallet, which gives Link unlimited rupees.

When Link finds a Wallet, his maximum rupees amount increases. There are currently 3 wallets in Zelda Classic. There's the L1 Wallet, which allows Link to hold 500 rupees at a time, the L2 Wallet, which allows Link to hold 999 rupees at a time, and finally, the L3 Wallet, which gives Link infinite rupees and basically allows him to get shop items for free. This item originated in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
